Club 5k parkrun improvers Championship

Again for the 2024/25 season there will be a club improvers 5k championship using parkrun courses in the local area.

The competition starts on the 27th of April at Bedfont Lakes, and then at a different nominated parkrun every month, and are listed here and in the club calendar (dates may change if there is a clash with the surrey league, or the parkrun venue may change if there is a problem with the nominated one on the date). For the parkrun to count in the competition it must be run on the nominated date.

The scoring system this year is hopefully more transparent and is as follows:

Participation:

Running a parkrun on the nominated date  – 5 points

Running the nominated parkrun on the nominated date  an extra 3 points

Running 5 parkruns in the competition an extra 5 points

Running 10 parkruns (out of 12) in the competition an extra 5 points:

Non Running volunteer 12 points ( 3 allowed to count per year)

Improvement scoring:

Base time set at first parkrun

Next parkrun – male with best time improvement 12 points, Female with best time improvement 12 points, second best male 11 points, second best female 11 points etc all the way down to 10th place, beyond this everyone who improves on their time gets 3 points.

The base time for the next parkrun then becomes your last parkrun time (it was going to be an average of all your times in the competition, but one very slow one puts the person at an advantage for the next few)

There will always be a top 10, so if only 5 beat their base time, the next 5 will be the ones who are over their target time but closest to it.

The league table will be published as soon as possible after the weekend of the parkrun along with the target time each runner is aiming to beat at the next one.

The Neilson Trophy will awarded for the male and female winners of the competiton
